Typical buffet experience with some good country food. We came here pretty close to opening so we were able to beat the big lunch rush. When you come in you pay with the cashier prior to being seated. Once your party has paid, a staff members seats you. Our server came pretty quickly to greet us and get our drink orders. (Make sure to keep your receipt for your server so s/he can now what drink you have paid for). We then made our way to the buffet.
The options were pretty good. I enjoyed everything I ate. There are plenty of options of meets, sides, and vegetables which were all tasty. There were also a large array of dessert options as well ranging from pies, to cakes, to cobblers, and ice cream.
Overall, I had a good experience and would probably return, but you definitely have to be in the mood because it's a lot of food. Come with an appetite. -

Some of my relatives annually get together on Labor Day Saturday for lunch. Since most of them prefer a restaurant near Garner, Grandson's was selected for this year's event.
Grandson's Buffet features country comfort foods - and plenty of it. Compared to the typical Golden Corral, there isn't as much variety, but what they do offer is presented in large quantities. Had a better than the average choice of seafood. Also something not normally seen at buffets were a couple of ice cream cases with individual cups of ice cream. I sampled salad, pork barbecue, country-style steak over rice, and a few other goodies. Rice was a bit watery, but I liked the taste of everything.
My main concern is how they respond to larger groups. As I do each year when our family selects a restaurant, I call weeks in advance to confirm we are bringing a large group on a particular day. On my 1st call I was told they do not accept reservations but suggested I call closer to the date just to let them know of the size of the group. I called on the day before our visit, and once again was told they didn't accept reservations but gave them the time we would arrive and the size of our group.
Upon arrival (at their opening time of 11 am) I spoke with the cashier and mentioned we had a group of 15 and I had called the day before to let them know. Cashier (as well as the other employees she spoke with) sounded like dealing with a group is an inconvenience to them. We were seated as a group and the server did an ok job of working with us. Later in the visit I went past the hostess stand and overheard them speaking to someone else with a large group with the same "we don't do reservations" and a tone of voice that sounded like large groups are not welcome.
So enjoy the food, but come by yourself or with 1 or 2 friends and not a large group. -

Spent Mother's Day here and was overwhelmingly happy! Food was great! We got seated pretty fast considering it was a holiday.
Very reasonably priced and the options were great!
I left with a very full belly :) -

Great southern buffet for a good price. The food is really good, nice barn style interior decor and friendly, helpful staff.

It was my b-day this week so I was looking for an "all you can eat" Buffett where my whole local family/extended family (12 people) could go eat and have a good time. The main pre-requisite was price so that is how I ended up picking Grandsons. I didn't want to try Golden Corral or Hibachi but was hoping to find a local jewel, unfortunately this wasn't it. Price was amazing actually and that is a reason why I am not scoring under 3! We came on a Thursday so the special on that day is that 2 kids under 10 can eat for free per paying adult !! And the price per person is $8.99 so that is pretty hard to beat !! We had 6 kids with us that ate for free !!! Besides a great price, I can say that the place looked clean and service was very decent. When it comes to food I was not impressed at all. There isn't really that much variety and the most of the dishes look either old or unappealing. The most of the dishes I tried were not great, i didn't get seconds on anything I got. The most of us ended up eating a plate of French fries, tiny fried shrimp and biscuits because those seemed to be the safest choices. Regardless of how cheap it is I won't be coming back.
